¿Cuánta crema solar necesito?

Tras post anteriores sobre los tipo de radiación que existen, como protegernos frente a ellas y algunas pinceladas sobre los filtros físicos. Hoy hablamos sobre algo básico, cuánto protector debemos aplicar para que funcione al 100%.

Si eres de los que tiene un protector solar por año, te puede interesar. Me apuesto un pintalabios a que lo estas aplicando de manera errónea.

¿La clave? La cantidad.

Por si no lo sabes, la radiación solar es uno de los temas que más me interesa en cosmética, sobre todo debido a la presencia de las nanopartículas que me acompañaron en mi maravillosa tesis doctoral.

La gran mayoría se aplica el factor de protección solar como una crema normal, es decir, poquita cantidad y bien extendida para que no se note nada blanco en el rostro. De ahí que muchas veces se recomiende usar factores de protección solar altos (SPF50) en vez de lo que sería más adecuado: un 15-20 en otoño/invierno, 25-30 en primavera/verano o un 50 en casos de playa, piscina o exposición larga al sol.

Comencemos por lo básico.. ¿qué hace un factor de protección solar?

Proteger de la radiación (UV e IR y Visible en algunos casos). ¿Cómo lo hace? Actúa de pantalla frente a los rayos solares y los dispersa. Y esto ocurre siempre, sea un SPF 15, 25, 50 ó 100. (en el caso se un SPF < 15 sí se ha visto que absorben una menor cantidad de radiación UV).

Por tanto, cualquier protector solar con SPF> 15 te protege igual de la radiación UV.

¿Cúal es la diferencia de los SPF?

El factor de protección solar (Sun Protection Factor, SPF) es tan solo un estándar en las cremas solares y nos indica cuanto tiempo podemos estar en el sol sin que se produzca eritema (quemadura).

Es decir, si tardamos en quemarnos (supongamos) 1 minuto, si aplicamos un factor de protección 50, nos protegerá 50 minutos. Si lo traducimos un poco más científico, sería algo así:

Valor SPF = Energia UVB para crear eritema (piel protegida) / Energia UVB para crear eritema (piel desprotegida)

Por tanto, si aplicamos la cantidad correcta en otoño/invierno no necesitaríamos más de un 15-20 (hablamos de un invierno normal- no como lo de estos años), 25-30 en primavera/verano (en cuidad).

¿Cuándo usar un SPF 50? En zonas donde la radiación ultravioleta sea muy elevada y tengamos altas temperaturas, combinado con una exposición al sol considerable (tumbarse a la bartola en la playa, piscina, campo o similar).

¿Cuánto debemos aplicar?

Entender este punto es clave para aplicar correctamente el protector solar y evitar futuras quemaduras. Lo aconsejado es una capa de unos 2 mg/cm2 de piel,  que traducido en algo más tangible, equivale a 9 cucharaditas de café en todo el cuerpo. ¡Sí, esa manía de tu madre cuando estabas en la playa y dejarte tan blanco como un fantasmita es la acertada!

En el caso del rostro sería algo menos, alrededor de una cucharadita. ¿Demasiado? Seguro que much@s pensáis que es una auténtica burrada, sobre todo cuando existen rutinas eternas con miles de productos que cuando llegas al protector solar tu piel y tu estáis saturadas. Recuerda, menos es más, y durante el día con una crema/serum y la protección solar sería suficiente.

¿Cada cuánto?

Creo que no digo nada nuevo diciendo que cada dos horas debemos aplicar de nuevo el protector solar, ya sea con la misma fórmula, con unos polvos con SPF o una bruma solar. Pero sí, sobre todo cuando aprieta el Lorenzo, lo mejor es reaplicar cada 2-3 horas.

Algunos productos que te facilitarán la vida.

SPF25/SPF30 (uso diario)

SPF50 (altas temperaturas, zonas con alto impacto de radiacion UV)

Llego con unos meses de retraso respecto a la publicación de este post pero te conozco desde hace muy poco y la verdad estoy leyendo cada entrada y me parece mejor que la anterior, ¡¡enhorabuena!! ¡Qué fácil haces comprender los componentes de los cosméticos, sus propiedades y usos para personas totalmente alejadas de la química!
    Particularmente, me asalta una duda a nivel práctico y quizá sea una frikada o rizar el rizo. Muchas cremas hidratantes, de nuestra rutina de día o cremas con color tienen spf, por lo que te saltarías el paso de aplicar concretamente una crema solar. Sin embargo, ¿nos ponemos la misma cantidad de crema hidratante que crema solar (o la que deberíamos ponernos)? Yo diría que no. Y entonces, estoy bajando la protección solar de esa crema hidratante, ¿no? ¿De qué sirve entonces que una crema hidratante lleve spf?
    Espero que sepas poner algo de luz en esta «rayada» mía…

    No es ninguna «rayada» lo que comentas y aciertas de lleno. Jamás conseguiremos un SPF50 con una crema/base o hidratante con color. Como tu bien dices, la cantidad no llega ni a la mitad.

    Realmente, para lo único que serviría es para potenciar el protector que llevemos debajo, pero no como método fotoprotector exclusivo.

    Yo desde luego prefiero usar un SPF normal y añadir algo de color después. Es cierto, que si vas a dar una paseo en la playa sobre las 9 am o 6 pm puede servirte. Aún así, es un producto totalmente prescindible, y sobre todo crea confusión en el consumidor, que se lo aplica pensando que está «protegido».
